Alvin Horning purchased his first St. Bernard puppy when he was 20 years old. He had no idea this would start a 50-year journey of breeding these dogs. He not only loved his own dog, but loved watching families come to his home, fall in love with a puppy, and walk away with a new companion.

“I love watching people enjoy their dogs as much as I enjoy my own.”

But for Alvin, the joy didn’t stop at providing people with a pet. He wanted his puppies to contribute to something greater. So for the past several years, every penny of profit the St. Bernard puppies have brought in has been donated to nonprofits in Romania, Honduras, and South Carolina.

Alvin is a local pastor, and serving the global community is as important to him as bringing joy to the families who purchase puppies. He believes in living the faith he preaches:

“The only way that true faith is recognized or expressed is through love. There is no other way. The only thing that counts in life is faith expressed through love (Galatians 5:6).

That’s a powerful statement: it’s patient, it’s kind, it doesn’t boast, it doesn’t envy, it’s not easily angered. It does not delight in anything that’s evil. Always protects, hopes, trusts, perseveres, and never fails.”

Meadow Puppies is an extension of love and faith. And we hope that every puppy welcomed into a new home brings both of those characteristics with it.
